A city law being hatched in Washington, D.C. that would make it illegal for religious organizations to discriminate against homosexual individuals – with the exception of having to marry them or support their ceremonies – has gotten a cold response from the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. In fact, the church is resorting to an attempt at blackmail; if the law passes without crucial changes, the church will not renew its social service contracts with the city. This could potentially affect tens of thousands of people who rely on the church to provide certain services, ranging from homeless shelters to adoption agencies.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Rhode Island – Don Carcieri – vetoed a legislation last week that would have allowed gay couples the right to plan funerals for their deceased partners. The Governor called the concept a “disturbing trend” and a threat to the sanctimony of traditional marriage.
I can only assume that it’s the good ol’ boy network that gets these lunatics in positions high enough where they can erode nationwide efforts of establishing basic civil rights in this country in the 21st century. Because, let me tell you, I have been married to a wonderful woman for over six years, and there is not a thing that some gay man writing an obituary to his partner could do to change a second of it.
There are many things that pose a threat to the institution of marriage, and not a single one of them have anything to do with homosexuality.
