It’s not very often that a website makes me feel uncomfortable and chills me to the bone.
A Danish website called “Hit The Bitch,” intended as a public service announcement for Danish citizens, had that very effect on me. On this website, the visitor is faced with a Danish-speaking young woman, whom the visitor can hit in the face by using the mouse to swing a hand at her. There is a meter that starts at “100% Pussy” which, after a sufficient number of strikes, eventually reaches “100% Gangsta” – which morphs into “100% Idiot!” The woman being “hit” by the user ends up on the floor, crying.
Words do not do justice to this site. It sounds gimmicky, but it is not.
The website has been received with criticism, particularly outside of Denmark. Many have called it out for being “uncomfortable” to experience.
Really?
How should the topic of domestic violence be approached, then? With a pamphlet and a cup of tea?
