New Mexico hotel owner Larry Whitten has come under fire for asking his switchboard workers of foreign descent to use “Americanized” versions of their names when interacting with patrons. He also asked them to speak English in his presence. Apparently some employees were terminated due to their refusal to comply with Whitten’s requests.

An Uncomfortable Silence

I understand that Republicans are all about small government and keeping Uncle Sam out of corporate board rooms. I can get on-board with that. But surely we should be able to agree that if a company denies its employees the right to seek criminal prosecution for sexual assault, then perhaps, at the very least, that company should not be subcontracted by the United States government.
